I think the dictionary’s definition of ‘hardcore’ should honestly be changed to 2 words: EMMELINE PANKHURST. I just recently begun learning about her work for the Suffragette Movement and I am in shock with how fearless this woman was. She is the embodiment of a strong, independent woman and should, in all honestly be at the top of all girls role model lists.
I’ve been reading this speech she gave at the Royal Albert Hall in front of both men and women and the kind of language she uses in it is so empowering, so fierce, so fricking BADASS. She shows no shame in what she does and implores everyone else to do the same. I can’t explain how inspiring I’ve found this attitude to be and can only hope that a shred of it rubs off on me while I begin my History coursework on her (oh! the joys!) I just thought I’d share an extract of her speech because I can’t get over how amazingly confident this woman is:
Be militant each in your own way. Those of you who can express your militancy by going to the House of Commons and refusing to leave without satisfaction, as we did in the early days – do so… .Those of you who can express your militancy by joining us in our anti-Government by-election policy – do so. Those of you who can still further attack the secret idol of property, so as to make the Government realize that property is as greatly endangered by women’s suffrage as it was by the Chartists of old – do so.
And my last word is to the Government: I incite this meeting to rebellion! … .Take me, if you dare, but if you dare I tell you this, … . you will not keep me in prison.”

This speech was Pankhurst’s first public address after getting out of prison. She had been imprisoned because of her efforts to bring women’s suffrage to the UK.
The woman had just been in prison for goodness’ sake! I mean?! I’m just in awe and hope that women like her will continue to exist in the generations to come.
