‘What do young Nigerians think about your leaders and their country and Africa?
Do you teach them history?’
Nelson mandela
This has been a long-awaited passion project of mine. To educate myself on Nigeria’s history, her past, her present and seek to see how I can stay engaged in securing her future. History was always my favourite subject growing up. I learnt so much about the British Empire and though I am grateful for the knowledge, I am hungry for that same level of knowledge about my country, my home, my Nigeria.
Right now, she is wailing because things are not as they should be and despite turning 60 on October 1st 2020, there is still a lot more that needs to be achieved. I feel my hopes and dreams to witness Nigeria rise aren’t too far fetched and this section will represent a discovery and exploration of her rich history uncovering stories from the past that will help to inform the present and hopefully provide hope for the future.
One of my many ambitions in life was to delve into Journalism, in fact I was so close to studying it at University. However, though that wasn’t the case – I am so glad to have ‘Let’s Be Patriotic’ as an opportunity to tell our stories – unbridled and unfiltered. I’m hoping we can all learn together and find a true sense of patriotism and love for our respective countries!
My Promise to Nigeria:
I pledge to Nigeria my Country To be faithful, loyal and honest To serve Nigeria with all my strength To defend her unity And uphold her honour and glory So help me God.
